Tom is involved in engagements across a number of Paia FROM CBRE's service lines, advising clients with their CDP and GRESB submissions, climate-related disclosures and strategy formulation.
A focus of Tom's work relates to sustainability reporting across the various standards (particularly GRI and ISSB), and related elements which support reporting requirements such as materiality assessments, stakeholder engagement exercises and data collection and analysis. Tom also helps clients meet the National Environment Agency's Mandatory Packaging Reporting (MPR) regulations. He holds the "GRI Certified Sustainability Professional" status and is an "FSA Credential Holder".
Tom's clients predominantly operate in the agribusiness, technology and real estate sectors and he is part of the sustainability reporting training delivery team.
Tom spent over fifteen years in the IT services industry before moving into sustainability with Paia Consulting via a Master's in Sustainable Development. His background includes assurance and advisory work with the Big 4, and internal audit, compliance and risk management experience with a large IT services provider. Much of Tom's prior experience was focused on datacentre infrastructure and IT security controls, particularly relating to third-party audits for regulatory and financial reporting purposes.
Tom has over 300 hours of training experience, predominantly relating to sustainability and climate reporting. He is heavily involved in the creation of course materials and ensures that the content for each session reflects recent events and regulatory changes (not always an easy task in the world of sustainability!). With a breadth of practitioner experience, Tom is able to provide relevant and interesting examples to bring the world of sustainability reporting to life.
In this section, participants will get an introduction to ESG reporting by understanding the factors driving disclosures, the benefits of reporting to assess non-financial risks, and the latest Bursa Malaysia listing requirements. The participants will familiarize with relevant reporting Frameworks:
Finally, the participants will understand how to draft a good sustainability report in compliance with the regulatory requirements and increased market expectations.
In this section, participants will be exposed to materiality assessment following the requirements and expectations set by GRI and IFRS. Participants will appreciate the importance of identifying and engaging relevant stakeholders for insights and feedback, leading to the prioritization of sustainability-related issues to be tracked, managed and monitored.

We have curated relevant case studies for Malaysia to be discussed with the participants. This section will be centred around facilitating sharing and learnings.
This final section’s objective is to provoke participants with insights around possible and further regulatory reporting requirements, changing market expectations, enhanced scrutiny and adoption of technologies to enable sustainability.
