Tim Frew is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Sydney. He specializes in the taxation of real assets, concentrating on taxation matters relevant to the acquisition, holding and disposal of all classes of real estate, including industrial, retail, office, residential, multi-family, student, agricultural and vacant land.
With more than 19 years of taxation experience, Mr. Frew advises clients on the establishment and maintenance of compliant Australian REITs (Managed Investment Trusts) and works with clients who operate through various structures, including companies, trusts, partnerships, stapled and synthetic stapled structures.
Mr. Frew’s notable assignments include leading the delivery of large-scale, technology-enabled compliance projects (most recently for Australian-listed top-10 REITs). He leverages market leading analytics and robotic process automation to identify and deliver improvements to existing compliance approaches. Mr. Frew works with pension funds and global real estate investors on diligence, structuring and modelling of significant Australian investments made into multifamily, student living and industrial assets. He also brings experience with clients in other industries, including natural resources, infrastructure and consumer products.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Frew spent 17 years with Ernst & Young in Sydney and Chicago, serving most recently in Sydney as Associate Partner. He is briefed to advise on the largest and most significant real estate transactions in the Australian market, including providing sell-side assistance for hotels portfolio; various large-scale CBD office and retail buildings; and buy-side assistance for retirement living portfolios, student accommodation platforms and listed de-stapling transactions.
Mr. Frew earned a bachelor’s degree in law (honors) and economics (distinction) from the University of Wollongong. He has an ongoing role facilitating the Effective Tax Structuring courses with the Property Council of Australia and sits on the Property Council of Australia Income Tax Committee.

Adam Woodward is a Managing Director and the Property/Funds Market Leader for Australia with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Sydney. He provides transaction tax and advisory services to property/real asset, corporate and private equity groups. Mr. Woodward has deep expertise providing transaction structuring, tax due diligence, transaction advisory and other advisory/compliance assistance to both domestic and large multinational groups.
With more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Woodward has acted on some of the highest profile Australian listed transactions (including advising on the full ambit of private to public transactions) and other trade sale/peer-to-peer and sponsored transactions. He has provided a full range of Australian tax services to domestic REITs/funds, global private equity groups and large listed entities.
Mr. Woodward is recognized as a leading property/fund tax expert in Australia. He has led a Tax Institute and other treasury/government law/topical submissions and acted as an advisor/independent expert on tax technical matters and disputes.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Woodward was a Senior Partner with the Transaction Tax group in EY Australia for more than seven years.
Mr. Woodward earned a BBA/LLB (honours), and a master’s degree in laws (tax major) from the University of Sydney. He is a legal practitioner with a current practicing certificate, a registered Tax Agent, member of the Tax Institute of Australia, the Institute of Public Accountants and the Tax Committee of the Property Council of Australia

Jonathan Umali, with 30 years of experience in investment and asset management in Asia, joined ARCH Capital in 2006. Serving on the firm’s Investment Committee, he played a key role in expanding its investment footprint and establishing a strong local presence across the region, covering diverse markets and strategies such as opportunistic, value-add, and core/core+ investments.
Before joining ARCH Capital, Jonathan held senior positions at Ayala Land in the Philippines and completed international postings in Singapore and San Francisco. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Chemical Engineering from De La Salle University, an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management – Columbia Business School joint program, and attended post-graduate programs at the Harvard School of Design.

Kemmu Kawai joined Longevity Partners Japan in September 2022 as the Country Director. Based in Tokyo, he oversees all operations and activities in Japan, the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. He brings him more than 16 years of experience in finance where he specialised in real estate and credit investments. Before joining Longevity Partners, he served as a Portfolio Manager at Norinchukin Bank and as Investment Manager at Center Point Development.
